The Purpose:  The purpose of HIV/AIDS AWARENESS MARCH is to highlight the seriousness of HIV/AIDS as a health problem in the African American Community and the 19104 Zip Code area of West Philadelphia particular.  Various concerned partners and participants will march through a segment of the 19104 zip code area on Saturday, March 28, 2009 from 12 noon to 3 PM in an effort to raise awareness of the presence and nearness of this health crisis to us in 19104 and to call the community to join us in action.

The Participants:  The participants are from Churches, schools, neighborhood organizations, public officials, health agencies, businesses, block captains, social agencies, media, marching units, and health professionals primarily from the 19104 zip code area.  Each group will be identified in the march by signage and will distribute literature along the ways.  There will be informational/educational tables along the route a Belmont & Lancaster, Forty-second & Lancaster, Fortieth & Lancaster and on Forty-first Street between Viola and Parkside.  Rapid testing will also be available at the above locations.  Brief Motivational Talks will be given at Forty-first & Lancaster, Fortieth & Lancaster and Forty-first & Viola St.

The Logistics:  The route is from CCBC to 41st to West Girard to W. Girard & Belmont. to Belmont & Lancaster, to 40th & Lancaster to 40th & Westminster to Westminster and 42nd and 52nd to W. Girard to 41st and W. Girard to CCBC.

The Outcome:  It is hoped that an ongoing aggressive awareness and concern will grip all residents inthe 19104 zip code area to the extent we will work together to both reduce the rate of infections (HIV) and the rate of persons living with the disease where we also live over the next five years.
